Meet the Team

  • Berta Chatman- Founder

A Chico State University graduate, Berta is a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation and education, with over 10 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation, working in natural reserves, and teaching.

With a knack for teaching, she enjoys inspiring young minds through creative and interactive methods, believing that college-level science concepts can be grasped at a young age. Her ultimate goal is to instill a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world's diverse wildlife in future generations, fostering exploration, learning, and conservation efforts.

As many of you already know, Berta welcomed the arrival of her own young scientist in Fall ‘23 and is excited to teach her all about the Biology with Berta goal: Explore, Learn, Conserve.

  • Danii - STEM Assistant

Hey y'all! My name's Danielle but feel free to call me Danii. I'm a Cal Poly, Humboldt graduate who majored in Wildlife Conservation and Management as well as Ethnic Studies. I'll be helping out with group classes and will be encouraging students to connect with nature in their own special way. One important thing to know about me is that I will always try my best to bring a smile to someone's face or make them laugh.

When I'm not helping out with classes, you'll find me spending time at home with my 8 pets (aka my mini zoo) and my family, at the beach, in the mountains exploring, going on bird walks with my camera, or somewhere getting lost in a book.

  • Miss Isabel - Instructor

Many of you might recognize Miss Isabel from around the community, as she’s a big part of the homeschool community here in Monterey County. I just attended a co-op park day where her and her husband ran the BBQ and fed all who came out! She is also an outdoor educator at Hidden Hills Ranch, where she leads students through science activities, PE classes, and Art classes just to name a few.

I worked with Miss Isabel for many years out at the ranch until I got Biology with Berta up and running. She is a wealth of knowledge and has a heart to help kids have fun while learning.

  • Mr. Angelo DiMarco - Tutor

Meet Angelo, your go-to math tutor who’s as good with numbers as he is with a BBQ grill! He’s a proud veteran, former high school math teacher, and avid dachshund lover. Angelo now serves on the Monterey County school board, keeping education as sharp as his grilling skills—and yes, this wise guy was also Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2006. When he's not helping students ace their math exams, he's busy being a super dad to his three kids or serving up some mean BBQ. So, when election time rolls around, remember: vote for Angelo—you know he’s got the numbers to back it up!
