Science Tuesdays

(Ages 5-12)

Fee: $200 per segment

Science Tuesdays Earth Science

  • Embark on a thrilling journey through Earth science in our elementary group class!

    Over five weeks, students explore rock cycles, minerals, fossils, soil, and weathering. Through hands-on activities and captivating lessons, they'll uncover the mysteries of our planet while meeting grade-level standards. Join us for an engaging exploration of Earth's wonders!

  • Signing up for Earth Science class means you’re signing up to attend all 5 weeks of this Science Tuesday Segment.

    This segment will take place every Tuesday from August 20th to September 17th. When signing up, you have the choice between morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) classes.

  • In our ever-changing world, the impact of human activities on the environment has become a pressing concern. In this course, students will embark on a journey to explore the complex interactions between human actions and the natural world. Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates biology, ecology, environmental science, and social studies, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the environmental challenges facing our planet.

  • A stimulating class designed for 5th grade students and beyond. Join us on an educational journey that explores the intricate relationship between agriculture, the environment, and sustainable practices.

    In this dynamic course, students will delve into the fundamental principles of agriculture, gaining insights into topics such as crop cultivation, livestock management, and agricultural technologies. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, participants will learn about the importance of soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity in sustainable agriculture practices.

    But our exploration doesn't stop there. Students will also examine the broader impact of agriculture on our environment, including topics such as climate change, pollution, and habitat loss. This class includes a field trip to a local farm for more in-depth hands on learning.

Insect Ecology

  • Welcome to "Insect Ecology" - an exciting journey into the fascinating world of insects! Through hands-on activities, captivating lessons, and outdoor explorations, students will learn about insect behavior, anatomy, life cycles, and interactions with other organisms. Vet Science

  • Delve into the captivating realm of Veterinary Science with our immersive course tailored for students in 5th grade and beyond. Through hands-on exploration, participants will navigate a comprehensive journey through essential middle school and high school biology standards.

    Our curriculum emphasizes practical learning, offering six hours dedicated to Biology Labs where students will gain proficiency in utilizing veterinary tools and instruments. From dissecting sheep's Pluck, Brain, and Cow Eye to mastering the assessment of animal vitals and conducting full-body injury checks, participants will develop a solid foundation in veterinary care.

    In this course we will learn about:

    • Veterinary tools and instruments

    • Anatomy exploration: Sheep's Pluck, Brain, and Cow Eye dissection

    • Assessment of animal vitals and full-body injury checks

    • Basic first aid skills

    • Building a First Aid Emergency Kit

    • Microscopic Lab: Blood typing, parasite identification, etc.

    • Taxonomy and breeds of animals

    • Animal physiology: Exploring body systems and the digestive system of cows

    • Pig Dissection

Chemistry

  • Join us for an exciting exploration of chemistry standards designed for 5th grade and up, where hands-on labs are the highlight of each week. Throughout the course, students will complete six hours of engaging chemistry experiments, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific principles.

    Topics of this class include:

    • Electrolyte Analysis: Investigate the electrolyte content of sports drinks versus other beverages using specialized sensors.

    • Filtration Methods for Clean Water: Explore water treatment and filtration techniques to understand how and why water is purified.

    • Homemade pH Scale: Create your own science lab using kitchen items to determine the pH of different substances.

    • Simulated Health Testing Labs: Analyze simulated urine samples for pH, color, clarity, and the presence of proteins, glucose, and calcium.

    • Explosions: Explore the properties of hydrogen gas and its effect on candle flames in thrilling experiments.

    • Iodine and Salt Testing: Investigate why iodine is added to some salts and learn to detect its presence in various foods.

    • Forensic Chemistry: Conduct a mock trial of a crime lab, analyzing fingerprints, hair, fibers, and unknown chemicals to solve the case.

    • Ice Cream Lab: Apply chemistry skills in a fun experiment to make delicious ice cream treats.

    • Robotics: Enter the realm of robotics and bring mechanical marvels to life, learning to program and control our creations.

Safety gear is provided, ensuring a safe and enriching learning experience. Ecology Hikes

With Berta's expert guidance, young adventurers will learn about the local ecosystem, identify different plants and animals, and uncover the secrets of the natural world. Each hike is an opportunity for hands-on learning and outdoor exploration, as Berta shares fascinating facts and engages children in fun activities that spark curiosity and wonder.     And for those who want to take it to the next level, we offer an optional themed game night every Friday after the workshop. Each game night is based on the same topic we covered in class—perfect for putting your new skills to the test while having a blast with friends.

  • Middle and High School students will end their week on a high note with our fun and interactive Friday Night Game Nights!
